Trailblazer students receive English training tailored to their capabilities, due to a written and oral test taken at the beginning of the course to assess ability levels, as well as periodic tests and a presentation given during the course. Through our customized curriculum and materials, students cover speaking, reading, writing and listening.

The Trailblazers course uses EF's unique Efekta system in order to cover all the fundamentals in English and enhance student's communication skills. The Efekta system combines face-to-face lessons to build conversational skills, Life Club activities to practice spoken English and our online learning program Practice and Play.
Life Club builds confidence through fun, social activities involving speech, drama and theme-based, group endeavors. Life Club gives students a chance to put into practice what they have learned in the classroom environment in a natural setting.
Practice & Play is a set of online Flash-based activities and games that allows students to receive over 200 hours of online homework and practice.
Parent Pages is designed to facilitate communication between teachers and parents.

Trailblazers Introduction |
Primarily responds in First Language. May be familiar with the alphabet and capable of recognizing one or two high frequency lexical items, such as greetings. May demonstrate limited understanding, but will be unlikely to produce the target language. |
Has some limited passive knowledge of basic common words. May have no or very limited Knowledge of the Roman alphabet. Has no or limited awareness of sound/spelling relationships. |
Trailblazers Beginner |
The First Language may be used occasionally. Struggles to produce basic sentence forms and pauses lengthily before most words. Can understand very slow, short direct utterances and may rely on gestures and facial expressions and context to reinforce or clarify meaning. |
Reading texts at this level consist of single words or signs, very simple forms, very simple sentences and familiar vocabulary. Writing may mainly consist of copying key information into a model text. |
Trailblazers Elementary |
Can produce short utterances with great ease. Communicates by using basic and predictable sentence structures. Can understand slow, short, direct utterances and will be able to understand simple dialogues. |
Can read short texts on general and familiar subjects. Will use more and more strategies to read, including sounding out using letter patterns, sight words, context clues and illustrations. Can begin to write very simple sentences and link them together with a limited degree of accuracy. |
Trailblazers Pre-intermediate |
Can handle very short social exchanges but may not be able to keep the conversation going without prompting. Relies on apparently memorized utterances. Are active in conversation and will require thinking time to compose their answers. Still makes numerous and frequent errors that may lead to misunderstanding. Can understand sentence strings and lengthier utterances if spoken at a slow native speaker pace. |
Can read simple everyday materials, such as menus and timetables. Can work out unknown words, reread and selfcorrect. Written texts at this level consist of a few simple sentences or a short paragraph. Can link sentences in a story by using connectors. Can write simply on familiar subjects but may rely on models to develop mastery of new text types. |
Trailblazers Low Intermediate |
Can communicate well on routine tasks requiring a direct exchange of information on familiar topics. Has insufficient vocabulary to develop and hold conversation on less familiar topics. Will be able to vary sentence structure slightly. Subordinate structures are rare and often produced inaccurately. May begin to experiment with intonation and sentence stress patterns. Understands language on a range of subjects when spoken to directly and clearly. |
May choose to read independently and silently most of the time. Can use reading strategies appropriately and with ease. Can talk about the main idea of a story and relate personal experiences to it.
Can make inferences or "read between the lines" in a story. Can understand basic punctuation - capital letters, periods, and commas. Can write short, simple notes and messages conveying general meaning using limited vocabulary and a range of structures. |
